The Commission has released the 2024 edition of the Science, Research and Innovation Performance (SRIP) report. This new edition offers a comprehensive and detailed overview of how Europe is performing today in terms of science, research and innovation and analyses the key determinants of this performance. By highlighting the essential role of R&I in driving competitiveness, environmental sustainability and improved quality of life, the report offers data-rich analysis coupled with in-depth exploration of topical policy issues. The European Research Area and Innovation Committee (ERAC ) adopted the ERAC Opinion on Guidance for the next Framework Programme for Research & Innovation. With this ERAC provides advice to the Council, the Commission and the Member States on strategic R&I policy issues and recommendations on the next EU Framework Programme.
ESFRI organises an Information Day, on 8 October 2024 in Brussels, to kick-off the process of updating its Roadmap - to be completed in 2026. Top Roadmap stakeholders will provide a thorough presentation of the requirements, the procedure and the methodology of selection of proposals for new RI Projects to enter the Roadmap. There will also be further presentations on the monitoring of ESFRI RI projects already on the Roadmap. Read more here.
The report addresses researcher skills, as part of a series of three feedback to policy reports, that take stock of the progress and promising practices generated by a selection of EU-funded projects on skills, research assessment reform and the R&I activities of the Horizon 2020 ‘Science with and for Society’ (SWAFS) projects supporting the alliances. The 2024 edition of the European Innovation Scoreboard (EIS) provides the 2024 the since 2021 yearly comparative assessment of the research and innovation performance of EU Member States, neighbouring European countries and selected third countries.
On 3 July 2024, Iliana Ivanova, Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, and Francois-Philippe Champagne, Canadian Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry, have signed the agreement that gives Canadian researchers and organisations the opportunity to participate in the programme on equal terms with their EU counterparts.
