Workshop: Submillimetre Single-dish Data Reduction and Array Combination Techniques

On 15/16. March 2018, this workshop at ESO in Garching/DE  will cover both line and continuum data, and will consist of introductory lectures followed by hands-on tutorial sessions on ALMA single-dish data reduction in CASA, spectral line reduction of submm data in CLASS, bolometer software for APEX instruments (BoA for LABOCA, Scanarmorphose for ArTeMiS), and [...]

Galaxy interactions and mergers across cosmic time

In the  workshop Galaxy interactions and mergers across cosmic time in Sexten/IT (11-16 March 2018), open questions relevant to the role of mergers in galaxy evolution, both near and far, are being discussed. Firstly, the focus is on how to best identify a merger, both observationally and in cosmological simulations. Next focus is quantifying the impact of interactions on [...]

OPTICON: 9TH VLTI SUMMER SCHOOL, 9-14 July 2018 in Lisbon

By combining the light from four telescopes, the European Southern Observatory Very Large Telescope Interferometer (VLTI) delivers angular resolution at milli-arcsecond scale and astrometry at tens of micro-arcsecond. The available instrumentation covers the H to N-band with low to moderately high spectral resolution. Given that long-baseline optical interferometry observing techniques are still not widespread in [...]

The big impact of a big dish: Science with the Effelsberg 100-m Telescope

On Feb 20/21, the workshop "The Big Impact of a Big Dish: Science with the Effelsberg 100-m telescope" will be held at the Max-Planck-Institut für Radioastronomie in Bonn. Even more than 40 years after its inauguration, the 100-m telescope is still one of the two largest  fully-steerable radio telescopes in the world, and — due [...]
