ESFRI Publishes Position Paper on Protecting Radio Astronomy Spectrum

The European Strategy Forum for Research Infrastructures (ESFRI) has published a new position paper calling for the protection of radio astronomy in the future regulatory framework for the 6425–7125 MHz frequency band. The paper urges the Radio Spectrum Committee to ensure that the needs of European radio astronomy research infrastructures are considered, safeguarding their ability to deliver world-class science and innovation.

The position paper highlights the strategic importance of the Upper 6 GHz band for major facilities, including the European VLBI Network (EVN), the SKA Observatory, and ALMA, and outlines recommendations for a balanced approach that supports both scientific research and technological development.
