Sweden and the United Kingdom have officially joined LOFAR ERIC (European Research Infrastructure Consortium) as full members, following a Council decision on 26 March 2025. This brings the consortium’s total membership to eight countries, marking a major milestone in the growth of Europe’s premier low-frequency radio astronomy network.
Both countries have been long-standing collaborators, hosting LOFAR stations since the early 2010s. Their transition to full membership reflects a deepening commitment to scientific excellence and reinforces Europe’s leadership in radio astronomy.
LOFAR ERIC leadership and national representatives welcomed the expansion, emphasizing the scientific, technological, and collaborative benefits of this strengthened partnership.
