ASTRON has joined the Breakthrough Listen projects to enhance the search for technosignatures—potential signs of extraterrestrial intelligence—through the use of the Westerbork Synthesis Radio Telescope (WSRT). This collaboration marks a significant step forward in monitoring the radio sky.
With the Westerbork Telescope now fully integrated into the project, the team can continuously monitor the entire visible sky, day and night. The system will track transient signals that appear and disappear, monitor variable sources with changing brightness, and identify anomalous sources exhibiting unusual characteristics.
