EVN Online Training Days

Within the framework of the ACME project, JIVE is organizing the fourth online training session to support first-time users of the European VLBI Network (EVN). The session will provide guidance on the key steps involved in planning observations, preparing proposals, and scheduling. The training will take place on two days, 22 and 29 April 2025, with the following program:

  • Wednesday 22 April 2026  10:00–12:30 CEST (8:00–10:30 UTC)

– Science with the EVN: overview of the EVN, multi-wavelength/multi-messenger science applications, observatory capabilities, observational modes, and the support provided by JIVE.

– Proposal preparation: steps for turning scientific ideas into proposals. Learn how to know when you can observe your target source and what to expect from the observations, using the EVN Observation Planner. And how to prepare an observing proposal with high chances of success, and how to submit it via the NorthStar Proposal Tool.

  • Wednesday 29 April 2026  10:00–12:30 CEST (8:00–10:30 UTC)

– Schedule preparation: introduction to scheduling EVN observations. What you need to know, calibration sources, and how to prepare a schedule file with pySCHED and getting assistance from our team.

There will be an open discussion at the end of each day, providing a great opportunity to interact with the EVN Support Scientists. No prior VLBI or EVN experience is necessary.

The training will be conducted on Zoom, with follow-up discussions on the EVN User Support channel on Mattermost.

Participation is free and open to all; however, registration is required. For details and registration, visit the training webpage.
