The 8th LOFAR Data School is scheduled to take place from September 16–23, 2026 at ASTRON in Dwingeloo, the Netherlands. Registration is open until April 20, 2026. Places are limited (~50 participants).

About the school

The school will provide hands-on training in the generation and analysis of LOFAR science-ready data. The program will cover techniques for processing and analyzing interferometric and beam-formed observations across a range of science cases, including wide-field imaging, extended faint sources, polarized emission, exoplanet searches, solar emission, ionospheric science, pulsars, and high-time-resolution phenomena. An overview of the LOFAR 2.0 upgrade will also be included.

Practical information

The program is aimed at participants new to LOFAR. Preparatory online modules will be provided in advance. Basic Python experience is required, and participants should bring a laptop (Linux or macOS). The school runs from Wednesday to Wednesday and includes a weekend excursion.

Venue and costs

The school will be held at ASTRON, with accommodation in nearby hotels (self-arranged). The registration fee (~€150) covers meals, social events, the LOFAR site visit, and local transport. A limited number of fee waivers and travel grants will be available.
