Three NRF-SARChI postdoctoral positions in VLBI

Applications are invited for multiple research positions focused on exploiting high angular resolution radio astronomy. The scientific goals of the project are to study the properties of dark matter, understand black hole activity and resolve star-formation processes in galaxies across cosmic time. The positions are part of a new initiative to develop Very Long Baseline Interferometric (VLBI) techniques and to make new scientific breakthroughs with current state-of- the-art instruments. The goal of the project is to build the African Centre of Excellence in VLBI, with the aim of expanding the required scientific and technical expertise needed to realise the African VLBI Network (AVN) and to develop the Square Kilometre Array-VLBI concept within Africa.

This new research group is well supported through a prestigious South African Research Chair Initiative (SARChI) grant held by Prof. John McKean, which is hosted at the University of Pretoria and is supported by the South African Radio Astronomy Observatory (SARAO).

Aplications should include: a motivation letter, an up-to-date CV, full publication list and a statement on your research and technical interests to Prof. John McKean (mckean@astro.rug.nl). Applicants should also arrange for 3 letters of recommendation to be sent by the submission deadline August 1, 2022.
